Sit down and play with us: the Sant'Anna School together with Dream Volley Pisa has organized a Sitting Volley demonstration tournament for Saturday 25 November with the European champions of the Italian national team

In preparation for the International Day of People with Disabilities, the Sant'Anna School in collaboration with Dream Volley Pisa, has organized a Sitting Volley demonstration tournament for Saturday 25 November, a paralympic discipline recognized in Italy since 2013. The European champions participated in the event of specialties.

Over 40 players of different ages took part in the event, challenging the European specialty champions.

Sitting volleyball is an inclusive sport derived from volleyball, introduced in the Netherlands in 1956-57 as a discipline adapted for the practice of sports by people with disabilities. The rules are the same as traditional volleyball, but it is played sitting on the floor, on a smaller court and with a lower net.

The day was opened by the Vice-Rector for Disability Elena Vivaldi, followed by Eva Ceccatelli, employee of the Sant'Anna School and recent winner of the European discipline championships.

Before starting we wanted to celebrate the Day against Violence against Women by observing a minute of noise. Players showed up on the field with the usual red mark on their cheek and during the registration some commemorative pins from the Casa della Donna of Pisa were distributed.

The players were sorted into 5 teams and each team played two games of one set, best of 15 points. Everyone won at least one game.

At the end of the tournament we then proceeded to the match between a selection of the Pesenti institute of Cascina and the Dream Volley Pisa team.
